Local residents and descendants of Cook also helped fund the replica.
One of the earliest pioneers of Weld County, Cook was justice of the peace, a published writer, a farmer and fathered 10 children. Some of his descendants continue to live in Weld to this day.
The original monument was erected by the Woodmen of the World, a fraternal society. It stood at seven-and-a-half feet tall. *More information and photos coming soon!
